New West Virginia AD Shane Lyons To Talk With New Pitt AD About Restarting the Backyard Brawl

Rivalries are the bread and butter of college football. They are the one game every fan wants to win if their team can only win one. Back when they were in the Big East West Virginia had one of the best in the land against the Pitt Panthers, but when both switched conferences the century+ old rivalry ended.

When Pitt hires a new AD West Virginia's new AD Shane Lyons is hoping the two can talk about getting it started once again.

Assuming Pitt's new AD is game the two will end up having the same problem as Texas and Texas A&M--scheduling. Both are committed to their conference schedules leaving just a few non-conference games that are open. Problem is teams end up scheduling opponents years in advance so just adding someone in is not that easy.

West Virginia already has a couple FBS opponents scheduled each season for the next several years with a slot for a "cash" game open. So even though the two sides may want to play it may be a long time before they can play.

“It’s not going to be two years from now,” Lyons said. “We’re probably looking at 2022 and ’23 to do a home-and-away, but I would love that.”

Better late than never, right?
