Dallas Cowboys Thinking of Having Dez Bryant Return Punts Next Season

The Dallas Cowboys know that eventually they will have Dez Bryant under contract for the upcoming season. He will either sign his tender if not a new extension. So if they have him for only a single season longer it sounds like they might try to get what they can out of him while they still ahve him.

They may have him return punts.

As unusual as it would be for a team's No. 1 wide receiver to return punts, Bryant would not be the first. It would be an unnecessary risk with such an important offensive weapon, but not unheard of. With the team's former punt returner, Dwayne Harris, now catching balls in the Big Apple they need to find someone to do the job.

The team may take the smart route and let someone else do it or at least make it a returner by committee job:
"We may have to do it by committee," Jones told season-ticket holders during a conference call on Wednesday. "We think Cole Beasley is what we call a safe catcher of punts. He can do that, he's done it for us. He'll probably be first in line. Then we have a guy in Dez Bryant who had quite a career returning punts at Oklahoma State. When we need a big play, with him maturing as a player, it would't be out of the question to see him in some key situations when we need him back there."

Bryant's first touchdown in the NFL came off a punt return in his second game and he was good at it in college.
