What Can the Tennessee Titans Get For Zach Mettenberger?

Prior to thee draft the Tennessee Titans had talked as if they were okay going forward with Zach Mettenberger leading the way. That statement became clearly false when the Titans picked former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 pick in the draft Thursday night. One would think the Titans must be thinking of either cutting or trading him, but that is not the case at all.

Word is the team wants Mettenberger to stick around and compete with Mariota for the job.

Once Mariota wins the job you would have to think the team will entertain trade offers for Mettenberger. The former sixth rounder showed some potential during his rookie season, but it wasn't the prettiest season for the former LSU QB.

So--should they eventually look to trade him what could they get? He flashed some potential, but he struggled just as much. Those struggles can be partially attributed to not having much to work with, but they are on him as well. For another team to be interested they would have to feel confident they can fix him or be in dire straits because of an injury to their starter.

What they can get will depend totally on the need of the other team. Had they tried to trade him during the draft a seventh round pick would have probably been the most they could have hoped for. Should someone try to trade for him after their QB is injured it would not be shocking to see him go for a 5th round pick.

More than likely he will not go anywhere. Mariota will eventually be the man, but there is no guarantee he will be ready to go at the start of the season. Should he become inured at some point during the season it will be nice to have a back-up that knows the system well.
