The New Orleans Saints Would Be Smart To Sit Drew Brees This Week

Football teams need to have their best players on the field if they want to increase their chances of winning on game day. This is especially true if you have a guy like Drew Brees on the roster. So when talk begin to float around the internet and news sources that he may have a torn rotator cuff Saints fans had every reason to be concerned. Brees is one of the best in the game.

So when word began to spread that his rotator cuff is only bruised and he could still play Sunday fans likely breathed a sigh of relief. However, if the team wants to breathe easier they may want to give him the week off.

What? Sit your star player even if he can play? Absolutely--because of the bigger picture.

This is only Week Three. There is a lot of football left to be played, and the Saints will need him at this best if they are going to get the kinks worked out of the offense. Yeah, it may suck to lose one or two more more guys when you already are 0-2, but if Brees were to play and his minor injury becomes a major one after he gets slammed on that shoulder again the Saints will really be screwed.

Last season it only took seven wins to take the division. It is entirely possible that the same scenario could play out this season as well. So take your lumps now New Orleans and bring your quarterback back when he is healthy.
