Back in July the Chattanooga, Tennessee, community fell victim to a tragedy when a shooting occurred at a military recruiting station killing five servicemen. Peyton Manning, who went to school at Tennessee and still has a home there, visited the base where the shooting occurred and helped set up a fund for the families of the fallen.
As it turns out, he has continued to pay tribute to the fallen during the season, but kept it to himself.

Manning has been writing the name of one of the fallen soldiers on the inside of his cleats each week and privately dedicating the game to him. In an ESPN 30 for 30 episode coming up Manning talks about his personal tribute:
"It makes you angry. So you try to funnel that into trying to help," Manning says in the clip. "[I've] been able to have a couple conversations with them over the phone to check on them, see how they're doing and let them know we started this fund. Hopefully they can take some comfort knowing a lot of people are thinking about them and praying for them and caring for them."
